What You’ll Gain from Coaching

Woman writer with coffee and open notebook on bed, working on her novel with guidance from a book coach.

"Before I started working with Lisa I loved to write but I completely lacked confidence. I kept my writing a secret and never actually finished anything I started because I didn’t believe I ever actually could! I’m positive I wouldn’t be where I am today, with a full finished first draft, if it weren’t for all the work we did overcoming my mental hurdles."

-Cara Neitzel, Coaching Client

"So often, the demands of life and internal doubts stand in the way of creating a craft. Through her unending support and keen eye for detail, Lisa can take any writer to the finish line and the end result is nothing short of magical."

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Editing happens after you have a finished draft. Coaching happens while you’re writing. As your coach, I provide accountability, guidance, and feedback along the way so you don’t get stuck or lose momentum.

  • I work primarily with women writers at all stages of their writing journey—whether you’re just beginning your first draft, struggling through the messy middle, or polishing a completed manuscript. My specialty is in women’s fiction, romance, and contemporary fiction, but I enjoy working with a wide range of genres. If you’re passionate about your story and committed to growing as a writer, there’s a good chance we’ll be a great fit. If you’re unsure whether your genre aligns with my expertise, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to chat about your project and see how I can support you.

  • My background uniquely combines both the craft of writing and the mindset support writers need to succeed. I hold a degree in mental health counseling, which gives me a strong foundation in coaching, accountability, and helping writers work through the doubts and challenges that often come with the creative process. I’m also a published women’s fiction author and the author of Write With Confidence, a mindset guide for writers. In addition, I am a professionally trained developmental editor, which means I have extensive experience with story structure, character development, and the techniques that make a novel truly engaging. Together, these experiences allow me to support writers not just in finishing their drafts, but in becoming stronger, more confident storytellers.

  • The length of coaching depends on your goals, your manuscript, and how much support you need. Many writers start with a 3-month coaching package, which provides enough time to build momentum, establish a consistent writing routine, and make significant progress on their draft. Others may choose longer-term coaching for 6 months or more, especially if they’re tackling a complex manuscript or want ongoing accountability and guidance through drafting and revision. Ultimately, the duration is flexible and tailored to what will help you finish your novel while growing as a writer.

  • That’s okay! Every writer’s process is different. Coaching ensures that you keep moving forward, learn tools you can use long-term, and gain the confidence to finish—whether during our time together or after.

  • Yes! I offer revision coaching for writers who already have a complete manuscript and want guidance to strengthen their story before moving toward publication. This type of coaching usually begins after a manuscript evaluation or developmental edit, allowing us to identify the areas that need the most attention and create a clear plan for revision. If you have a finished draft and want support polishing your story, I encourage you to reach out to discuss your project and learn more about how revision coaching can help you take your manuscript to the next level.

  • Choosing the right book coach is an important decision, and it’s important that we feel confident about working together. After you reach out, we’ll set up a free intro call where we’ll talk about your writing goals, your manuscript, and your overall writing journey. This call allows you to get a sense of my coaching style and approach, and it gives me a chance to determine if I can provide the support and guidance you need. By the end of our conversation, you’ll have a clear sense of whether we’re a good fit to work together.
